From a brief encounter at a Sheffield Hallam careers fair to driving real-world impact in the fast-paced world of e-commerce, Nathan Goodier’s placement journey has been anything but ordinary.
Why were you interested in the placement at Pricecheck?
I first came across Pricecheck at Sheffield Hallam University during a careers fair. After chatting with the team, I got a good feel for the company, what they do in the e-commerce space, and how they work with different brands. What stood out most was how passionate they were about the business and the impact they have as a distributor. That conversation stuck with me, and since then, I have been genuinely interested in working for Pricecheck.
How did you find the recruitment process?
The recruitment process was very chilled and the team made me feel comfortable from the start. Everything was straightforward, and the People Team made sure I knew what was happening at each step. It didn’t feel overwhelming at all, which made the whole experience really positive.
What skills have you developed so far?
I’ve learnt a lot of new skills during my placement, these include:
Commercial Analysis: I regularly review sales data, monitor campaign performance, and analyse customer behaviour to spot trends and opportunities. This has helped me make informed decisions about product positioning, pricing, and promotions, giving me a clear understanding of how e-commerce performance drives business results.
Initiative: I’m trusted with real responsibility across our e-commerce channels, from managing product listings to optimising online campaigns. I often take the lead on tasks like pricing management and campaign planning, which has helped me develop a proactive approach and take ownership of my work.
Determination: The fast-paced world of e-commerce means there are always new challenges, whether it’s tight launch deadlines, inventory updates, or optimising campaigns for better performance. I’ve learned to stay solution-focused and see projects through to completion, which is incredibly rewarding when you see tangible results in online engagement and sales.
What does an average day look like?
What I enjoy most about my role is how dynamic it is; no two days are ever the same. One day I might be analysing online sales trends to see what’s driving performance, the next I’m managing digital campaigns and then looking at market data to spot new opportunities for our e-commerce channels. That variety keeps me on my toes, and I’m constantly picking up new skills and insights about how online retail works.
What advice would you give to someone interested in a Pricecheck placement?
I’d say the best advice is to really get to know the company and its culture. Pricecheck values curiosity, initiative, and teamwork, so make the most of the opportunity to learn from the people around you. Be proactive, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to get involved in different areas. The more you put in, the more you’ll get out of the placement.
